Helping People....help Rescuers...that help Dogs

Listings are FREE for Dog Rescue Organizations

Searching to adopt a puppy or adult dog? Animal lover wanting to do your part helping a rescue or a shelter in need of volunteers and supplies?   Rescues and shelters depend on volunteers and donations to keep going.  They work hard to find "throw away" dogs new homes - and it isn't easy.  This site was founded to assist pet lovers searching for a rescue to obtain a pet, and for those that want to help rescuers by providing the things they need to continue.

Listing a resccue, shelter or humane organization is FREE.  Update it as often as you wish. We do not list individual puppies or dogs. You only get a marginal taste of a dog's personality in an Internet listing - so we feel the best way to find the ideal pet is to talk to a PERSON.  We welcome all purebred and mixed breed rescue organizations, including individuals that do private rescue (such as Vets, Groomers, Good Samaritans).  If you know of a rescue organization that helps dogs - register it here - it's FREE.  And while your at it, let us know what your rescue needs - volunteers, supplies, donations - and we'll put the word out. Why get a rescued dog?  Because they NEED you!!!  But here are some more good reasons!

  • A rescue dog will be forever grateful you gave him a loving home.
  • Rescue dogs are often already house trained and past the puppy chewing and troublemaking stage.
  • Rescue dogs often have had some basic training.
  • Rescue dogs have had a temperament evaluation by someone experienced with the breed
  • Many rescue dogs love kids, cats and other dogs - but if they don't - you'll be told
  • Rescues are usually neutered or spayed, sparing you the expense.
  • Rescues have had all their shots, are heartworm negative and usually are in good health.
  • Rescuers take the time to learn everything possible about your dog - good and bad
  • Rescued dogs are screened to make sure they aren't aggressive to people
  • You'll get a heads up on your dog's personality - likes and dislikes, and their character
  • A rescues experience with dogs helps them find you one that will best fit your lifestyle
  • You'll know in advance of any health issues
  • Rescues make sure the dog is a good fit for you and your family
  • Rescued dogs often have excellent pedigrees and may even come from top breeders
  • Rescuers are always available for questions, training suggestions, and follow up of any kind.
  • If it doesn't work out, many rescues will take the dog back.

Save a dog's life - millions of dogs are killed every year by animal shelters throught the US and Canada due to a lack of space in shelters.  These dogs are killed by injection, shot, or shoved into a gas chambers with dozens of other terrified dogs and killed because no one wanted them.

 Hours:

Vary depending on the rescue. Please be considerate as you are probably calling someone's home.  Most rescues are staffed by overworked volunteers that take calls in their spare time.  Please be considerate and make sure you call at an appropriate time of day depending on the time zone.

Location:

Rescues are located all over the US and Canada and many are based out of volunteers homes. Dogs may be located in shelters or fostered in private homes.  Most rescues will  arrange for a home check to ascertain that the proper facilities are in place and the family is capable of handling the new family member.  Finding the right new family member may take some driving, or he may be right next door...
