Whether you desire a purebred or a mix, the first step is to contact a rescue near you that can help you select a dog that will fit your space, temperament and family situation. Our purpose at the United Dog Foundation is to provide a list of current active rescuers - whether you hope to find a dog or need to place one.
We do not list specific dogs on this site mainly because seeing a dog on the internet is not the best way to find your heart dog. ( A heart dog is the love of your life dog - the one dog that will always be a favorite and have a special place in your heart among many dogs). We prefer to leave it in the rescuers hands to match you with that perfect companion. Cute is not everything, neither is being photogenic - sometimes the best dogs just don't photograph well. You only get a marginal taste of a dog's personality in a Petfinder listing - so we feel the best way to find the ideal pet is to talk to a PERSON - someone familiar with the breed or mix you have in mind, that knows the dogs personally they are trying to place. Someone that can get a feel for what you want and go "I have just the perfect dog for you - fluffy" and can tell you all about fluffy's good and bad traits - so that when you meet Fluffy - you'll know it was meant to be.
We would also like to mention that most rescues and humane organizations are desperate for volunteers and foster careproviders. If you can help in any way - groom a dog, walk a dog, foster a dog, pet a dog, finance a vet bill, make phone calls, transport a dog - and much more - you are needed!!! Contact the rescue of your choice and ask how you can help.
